Oxfam report highlights funding gap for climate impacts

Posted on 13 June 2022

New research by Oxfam estimates that funding requirements for UN humanitarian appeals linked to extreme weather are eight times higher than they were 20 years ago. Over the past five years, nearly half of appeal requirements have gone unmet.

The report calls for governments to urgently decide new funding arrangements to address rising loss and damage in developing countries. “An effective and comprehensive finance system to address loss and damage must include a new finance facility to help ensure that provision of finance is adequate, effective, fair and guided by principles of climate justice.”
