GNS Science - Te Pū Ao
GNS Science - Te Pū Ao is a leader in integrating hazard and risk science into disaster preparedness, emergency management and land use planning outcomes to build resilience to disasters. GNS Science has led the development of tsunami evacuation mapping guidelines adopted by the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management and contributed to ensuring the Emergency Management sector delivers consistent messages about hazards and risk. Through surveys and community consultations, we have established data on the effectiveness of education about preparedness and developed simple methods of engaging with communities to encourage responsibility for building resilience.
Besides working in New Zealand, we have a number of International Development projects funded by MFAT, Asian Development Bank and World Bank underway or recently completed.
