A new UNICEF report reveals that 1 in 3 children worldwide are exposed to severe water scarcity.
The report named The Climate Changed Child has been published in the lead up to the COP28 Climate Change Summit and explores the three tiers of global water security– water scarcity, water vulnerability, and water stress
It brings to the forefront both the extremity of the issue – with 739 million children worldwide exposed to levels of high water scarcity – but also placing it as a key impact in the context of climate change. Climate and water are described as “inextricably linked” – with changes to rainfall, ice sheets, sea levels, floods and droughts predicted to exacerbate water scarcity.
COP28, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, is being held in UAE from 30 November-12 December.
