Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position 

As our Communications Advisor and a part of VSA’s small, newly refreshed but high-performing Marketing and Communications team, you will be responsible for telling the beautiful stories of our volunteers and partner organisations’ capacity-building efforts across the Pacific, utilising multiple platforms, formats and distributions. You will work closely with all of our teams across VSA, source content and great stories, as well as update, maintain and eventually redesign the VSA website to maximise engagement and the user experience for our stakeholders, and be deeply involved with our overall communications and PR planning. 

We work collaboratively to increase the reach and impact of VSA’s profile across Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific so we can attract and reach a wide variety of audiences, including potential volunteers, members, and donors. As one of our leads in communications and content, you will get to highlight some of the great development mahi that our partners achieve in partnerships with our volunteers. 

Reporting to the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Manager, you’ll be a pivotal member of the Marketing, Communications and Fundraising team, and the wider Stakeholder Engagement Group. 

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role  

This is a rare, broad and varied communications role, taking on developing and delivering communications initiatives and projects, researching and writing content for multiple communication channels, and website management. This role requires you to have strong relationship management and cultural competency skills. 

  • We are seeking an enthusiastic candidate who will bring the following: 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record in writing and editing, and communications planning. 
  • Ability to seek out interesting people stories and find the appropriate angles for VSA to use them to write engaging long to medium-form content. 
  • Experience using online Content Management Systems (website back ends) in addition to a working knowledge of MS Office programmes, email, and data analytics. 
  • The ability to build connections and engagement with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. 

We are seeking someone with ideally three to four years’ experience in a similar role, who is flexible, patient, and adaptable in an evolving environment.

The starting salary range for this role is $69,212 - $81,427 depending on skills and experience. This role is based in Wellington CBD, at our Wellington office, with the flexibility to work-from-home up to a couple of days a week.
