Research carried out by the ANU-UPNG Partnership predicts doubling MP funding will have a negative impact on the nation. Prime minister James Marape decided on this raise, with K2.2-2.4 billion now being controlled by MPs in 2023.
The initiative was implemented to invest more in rural districts, where 85% of the PNG population resides. However, the report has revealed many shortcomings of the decision including political division, lack of success in previous projects and lack of funds to support this change.
