The second edition of the European Humanitarian Forum, held in Brussels on 20 and 21 March, offered a necessary conversation about humanitarian aid. The forum bought together 2000 participants, including the EU, its member states, international organisations and partners for collaboration on the necessity of effective aid delivery, and the gap in the needs and resources.
Janez Lenarcic, European Commissioner for Crisis Management, stated at the forum that the need for humanitarian aid is peaking. “Humanitarian needs are at a historic high and are continuously increasing, worsened by the effects of climate change, and the ongoing armed conflict,” she says. It was announced that €8.4 billion of humanitarian funding was to be allocated for 2023, to help meet the increasing humanitarian needs globally.
