The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) has forecasted fewer tropical cyclones in the Southwest Pacific for the upcoming cyclone season. NIWA attributes this decrease to the influence of El Niño, which typically reduces cyclone activity in the region. However, experts are cautioning communities to remain vigilant, as even fewer cyclones can still cause significant damage if they make landfall.
