Gaza Updates: Paramedics Report Forcible Evacuation Forces Closure of South Gaza Hospital

Posted on 09 April 2024

In a harrowing turn of events, the Palestinian Red Crescent has reported that Israeli troops forcibly evacuated al-Amal hospital in southern Gaza, leaving staff and patients trapped in ambulances for over 20 hours. The Israeli military has justified its actions by claiming that “terrorists are using civilian infrastructure” in the area.

The situation escalated when Israeli forces besieged both al-Amal and the nearby Nasser hospital amid intense hostilities in the city of Khan Younis. The conflict has also reached al-Shifa hospital in northern Gaza, where the military alleges to have killed “terrorists” and detained suspects linked to Hamas or Islamic Jihad. The Palestinian Red Crescent’s statement detailed the death of a staff member and injuries to displaced persons, painting a grim picture of the chaos and fear that gripped the hospital as drones ordered an immediate evacuation.

Since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Gaza Health Ministry reports over 32,400 fatalities, including more than 81 deaths in the last 24 hours. The hostilities commenced following an attack by Hamas gunmen on southern Israel on October 7, which resulted in approximately 1,200 casualties and the capture of around 253 individuals as hostages.
