In a recent poll conducted by AAPI Data and The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, nearly 8 in 10 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States expressed their belief that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. This overwhelming support extends even to situations where the pregnant person seeks an abortion for any reason. The findings highlight the AAPI community’s commitment to reproductive rights and access to safe and legal abortion.
The survey also revealed that AAPI adults are more likely than the general population to identify as Democrats, which may partially explain their higher levels of support for legal abortion. Notably, AAPI Democrats are especially supportive of legal abortion later in pregnancy, with more than half advocating for unrestricted access. Even among AAPI Republicans, a majority believe that abortion should be legal in at least some cases. As the 2024 election approaches, these findings underscore the importance of reproductive rights as a critical issue for the AAPI community and the broader American electorate.
