Sunday marked the 20-year anniversary of the Darfur Genocide, an event sparking two decades of instability in Sudan.
The clash between rebel groups and the government in 2003 resulted in an estimated hundreds of thousands killed. 2 million people are still displaced in the nation today, some of whom have been living in camps since the genocide.
Sudan has faced persistent crisis since the Darfur Genocide and today conflict, climate crises, disease outbreak and economic deterioration threaten the lives of millions. According to OCHA, 15.8 million people, or roughly a third of the population, will require humanitarian aid in the country this year.
