The Health Ministry Reports Children Dying of Malnutrition in Gaza

Posted on 08 March 2024

Recent reports from the Ministry of Health in Gaza confirm the tragic deaths of at least six children due to dehydration and malnutrition, with four children passing away at Kamal Adwan Hospital and two at Al-Shifa Medical Complex. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, acting director at Kamal Adwan Hospital, expressed concerns over the impending halt of generator operations due to fuel shortages, leading to disruptions in critical services such as incubation and oxygen supply. He highlighted the hospital's depletion of medical supplies, resulting in a complete cessation of surgical procedures. Moreover, Safiya point out the scarcity of medical aid and baby formula, leading to infants receiving diluted milk at extended intervals due to mothers' inability to produce natural milk owing to dehydration and lack of nutritious food.

Israel’s ongoing conflict with Gaza, now in its fifth month,
has resulted in the tragic deaths of at least 29,878 Palestinians, with a majority being women and children. The escalation began following attacks launched by Hamas, the governing armed group in Gaza, into Israel on October 7, resulting in the loss of approximately 1,139 lives and the capture of 253 individuals.
