This week, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has been in Apia, Samoa to review, reflect on and track the progress of their efforts to improve children’s rights in the region. This week’s workshop named “The Regional Experience Sharing Workshop on Implementation of Recommendations” bought together relevant stakeholders to discuss the topic, having visited communities and governments in the Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Tuvalu in the week prior.
There was a particular focus on climate change at the workshop, with Monday’s session centering around the 26th General Comment, released in August by the committee and which “affirmed children’s right to live in a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.” The Pacific Launch of this General Comment was hosted on Monday, on the celebration of World Children’s Day.
