This week António Guterres, for this first time since his appointment as UN Secretary-General in 2017, invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter. In a letter to the Security Council, he emphasised the threat posed by the conflict in Gaza to 'the maintenance of international peace and security."
"Facing a severe risk of collapse of the humanitarian system in Gaza, I urge the Council to help avert a humanitarian catastrophe & appeal for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared", he shares on X.
